The Duclaux family
moved to Tunin et Semons from the Ardèche in 1928 and started out as
mixed fruit, vine and vegetable growers. Edmond started to
bottle some of his wine in 1976 and by 1979 was bottling it all.
The estate is now in the enthusiastic hands of brothers David and
Benjamin.
The family now has
5.5 ha of vines situated in Tupin et Semons and in the southern
sector of Côte-Rôtie. The two largest plots are on Coteaux de Tupin
and Maison Rouge both comprising decomposite granite. There are also
plots on Tupin, le Collet, Coteau de Bassenon and Pimotin. It
is estimated that the vines are, on average, 30 years old.
David and Benjamin
have a reputation for extraordinary detail in their wine making.
The result is reflected in the quality of their wines.
The wines also
reflect their southern Côte-Rôtie origins - masses of fruit, finesse
and floral tones.
